Hotel Per La

Hotel Per La opened in downtown Los Angeles in September. Housed in the former Giannini Building built in 1922, which was originally the headquarters of the Bank of Italy, the opening follows a full-scale reimagining by HN Capital Partners and Sage Hospitality Group. The 12-story property has retained its historic architectural details and Neoclassical style, while being modernized through contemporary furnishings, pops of color, and commissioned art and decor from local LA artisans. Highlights include Per L’Ora (pictured), the hotel’s new restaurant that focuses on Italian cuisine through the lens of East Los Angeles culture and flavors, along with the Bar Clara rooftop pool area that offers dramatic city views. The property’s 241 guest rooms are all inspired by Italy, with color palettes drawing inspiration from the property’s fully restored gold and blue, Italianate ceiling located in the lobby. For events, there’s 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space that can host anywhere from 12-850 people.

Workshop Kitchen & Bar

A new location of Workshop Kitchen & Bar opened in LA’s Fairfax District in August. The new space has stark, avant-garde design that's similar to the popular Palm Springs eatery of the same name, with modern, concrete booths, truss ceilings, and masonry walls. Each of the eight 14-foot booths—known as "cocoons"—are backlit with soft lighting intended to evoke the feeling of eating inside an art installation. And on the second floor is a mezzanine that offers views of the dining room, as well as a large, concrete communal dining table. The food is from chef Michael Beckman—a third-generation Angelo—and features local, seasonal fare. There’s also a menu of plant-based options. The restaurant is available for a range of private and semiprivate events, with catering capabilities coming soon.
