WOODSTOCK, N.Y.—Two hours outside New York City in Woodstock, N.Y., road trippers might have recently stumbled across a unique eatery—if they followed the cracker crumbs.
At The Cheez-In Diner pop-up experience, the Kellanova-owned snack brand served up classics with a cheesy twist, including a vanilla milkshake blended with Cheez-It crackers and served with a crushed cracker rim, mac ‘n’ cheese, and a sweet-and-salty cheesecake with a Cheez-It cracker pie crust, of course.
In addition to the grub, the diner featured a jukebox that accepted Cheez-It crackers instead of coins, along with retro decor such as walls adorned with vintage Cheez-It memorabilia. A red branded convertible was parked outside for selfie moments, and a Cheez-It “Taste-It Station” dispensed a selection of flavors, like Pepper Jack Cheez-It and Buffalo Wing Cheez-It, allowing visitors to mix and match their own blend of snacks.
Diners could also shop Cheez-In Diner merch, including T-shirts, a trucker hat, a diner coffee mug, stickers, postcards, and more.
The diner was open for only one week in May.
Last year, the brand hosted its Cheez-It Stop outpost in Joshua Tree, Calif., where instead of gas, the pumps poured out a stream of Cheez-It bags right into car windows. Both activations tied into the brand’s campaign named “Want It. Need It. Cheez-It.”
"We saw just how far our adventure-seeking Cheez-It fans would go when they 'Want It. Need It. Cheez-It.' last year making the drive to our Joshua Tree Cheez-It Stop outpost," said Cara Tragseiler, senior brand director for Cheez-It, in a release.
"So many fans have been suggesting where we should bring the Cheez-It fun next, and we knew we needed to go the extra mile—literally—to do it again. That's why this year we headed east, packing this one-of-a-kind roadside experience with even more ways to enjoy our iconic crackers, solidifying our spot as fans' go-to snack nationwide."
