This summer and fall, Nike and Dick's Sporting Goods are teaming up to empower young girls on—and off—the basketball court. The two megabrands have brought back It's Her Shot, a mobile tour offering free skills clinics, practice drills, pickup games, coaching, WNBA athlete and influencer appearances, giveaways, custom swag, and more for girls ages 8 to 18.
The program began as a one-day event in 2021 and has since grown into a mobile tour that's stopped in nine cities, hosted more than 2,000 youth athletes, and donated $260,000 to youth organizations across the country. This year's campaign, with the theme of "Confidence Is Her Key," focuses on "female empowerment, self-determination, and intrinsic confidence, with the goal of impacting the future success of women in sports and in life," according to Nike.
In 2024, It's Her Shot will stop in six different cities (by the end of this year's program, it will have hosted an event in all 12 WNBA markets) between May and October. Events are free to attend with spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, the Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation will donate $60,000 in Sports Matter grants to community partners in each city to help give more girls access to sports and to thrive on and off the court.
Nike and Dick's worked with their respective agency partners, On Board Experiential and Motive, to produce the tour.
“It's been incredibly rewarding to see how these experiences motivate girls to keep playing and believing in themselves," said Hannah Fuhrman, account director for On Board Experiential. "We have seen girls return year after year and express how this program has impacted their love for themselves and basketball."
On June 22, It's Her Shot made a stop in New York at Basketball City, a state-of-the-art athletic facility transformed from 63,000 square feet of warehouse space on Pier 36. More than 200 girls participated in the event, with WNBA legends like Sheryl Swoopes and Sylvia Fowles on hand.
Upcoming stops include Phoenix (July 21), Indiana (Aug. 17), Chicago (Sept. 14), and Los Angeles (Oct. 19). Keep scrolling to see more details and touchpoints from this year's New York stop of It's Her Shot...
